To be eligible, candidates must:
- Have a four-year bachelor’s degree with a minimum overall GPA of 6.0 out of 10, or 70%, calculated in accordance with graduate studies guidelines.
- Note: International candidates must check the admission equivalencies for the diploma they received in their country of origin.
- The candidates’ previous studies must include a university-level statistics course.
- Identify at least one professor who is willing to supervise your research and thesis. We recommend that you contact potential thesis supervisors as soon as possible.
Language Requirements
Applicants must be able to understand and fluently speak the language of instruction (French or English) in the program to which they are applying and at least a passive knowledge of the other. Proof of linguistic proficiency will be required.
Applicants whose first language is neither French nor English must provide proof of proficiency in the language of instruction.

Fast-Track from Master’s to PhD
Students enrolled in the master’s program of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa may be eligible to fast-track directly into the doctoral program in Population Health without writing a master’s thesis. The passing grade in all courses is C+.
Students who fail the equivalent to 6 course units must withdraw from the program.
